A Note From The Sellers

Letter to the Future Owner of October Farm, 224 Tuttle Road

The pandemic changed the lives of many, including our family. We sought a property that could accommodate our multigenerational household, and October Farm, one of the last colonial farmsteads in Cumberland, perfectly met our needs. The farmhouse's layout, with first-floor living accommodations for our mother and a guest cottage for our son, has been ideal for us. Though the farmhouse has been extended over the years, its floor plan suits modern living beautifully.

Upon purchasing October Farm, we transformed a hay wagon storage area in the barn into an artist studio for pottery. The guest house, which was gutted, has been completely restored with new HVAC systems, wiring, and central vacuum. We designed the cottage aesthetics to reflect the historic details of the Georgian vernacular farmhouse. In the farmhouse, we've carefully restored the rooms, including plaster restoration and using historic paint combinations and wallpaper.

The wonderful barn has become a lovely home for our poultry and waterfowl, providing ample space for equipment and vehicle storage. October Farm has been a delightful place to live, and we wish all the best to the future stewards of this historic property.

What We Love About Our Lives at October Farm:

  • Enjoying morning coffee in the sitting area by the kitchen, with views of the surrounding fields, whether snow drifts, wild turkeys, or sparrows depending on the season.

  • Wonderful and supportive neighbors who welcomed us with homemade bread and muffins when we moved in and have remained close friends.

  • Listening to the bullfrogs and peepers chirping in the farm pond during spring and summer evenings.

  • Walks to the local recreation area and the Cumberland Farmers Market on Saturday mornings.

  • Cozy fires in almost every room during the long Maine winters.

  • The sense of history and good “ju-ju” throughout the house.

  • Dining in the Fir Dining Room and entertaining friends at October Farm.

We hope you will find as much joy and fulfillment in October Farm as we have.

Warm regards,
Philip & Albert
